The September series of Cultural Evenings in the Atrium of Župný dom will conclude with a concert by DIS IS MARKĒTA, a band that brings an original fusion of folk inspirations and contemporary sound.
Spirited vocals, captivating folk melodies and a contemporary sound at the crossroads of world music, folk, electronica, ambient and classical music. DIS IS MARKĒTA brings together five musicians from different musical worlds, transforming folk inspirations into authentic, multi-layered compositions with an unmistakable atmosphere.
The band first attracted wider attention with its debut EP, hrajžemi, which received acclaim both at home and abroad. It entered the World Music Charts Europe, while DIS IS MARKĒTA’s music has been played not only by Slovak media but also by the American radio station KEXP. The band received two finalist nominations for the Radio_Head Awards and won the Czech Music Crossroads Professional Award 2024.
The band has presented its music at international showcase festivals including RITMO Budapest, Waves Vienna and Czech Music Crossroads, and also performed at the Colours of Ostrava festival in 2025.
Today, DIS IS MARKĒTA consists of Martina Kertészová (vocals), Martina Janegová (piano), Karol Kompas (guitar), Matej Tkáč (cello) and Matej Borovský (drums). At Župný dom, they will present music in which tradition does not become a museum exhibit, but remains a living source material for a new, contemporary sound.
