Through the Eyes of the Trenčín 2026 City Writer

How well do you know the city you live in? And what do you begin to notice when you have time to stay, observe and gradually make yourself at home? What perspective on a city does someone gain when they arrive from a different environment and have the time to get to know it in a way that differs from that of a tourist or an ordinary visitor?

During its year as European Capital of Culture 2026, Trenčín welcomed numerous artists and cultural professionals from different countries. One of them was Stefanie Bose, a translator and cultural manager from Germany, who spent five months here as the Trenčín 2026 City Writer.

During her stay, she explored the city and its surroundings through the people she met, cultural events, conversations, new connections, everyday situations and small discoveries that often happen entirely by chance.

She regularly recorded her experiences, observations and stories on her blog in both German and Slovak, as well as on Instagram at stadtschreiberin.trencin.2026. At the same time, she connected with local cultural figures and became a point of contact for German-speaking visitors to Trenčín. She also shared her experiences of the city and its surroundings, as well as her perspective on Trenčín 2026, beyond Slovakia’s borders through events and media appearances in Germany and Austria.

Now, her stay is slowly coming to an end. We would therefore be delighted if you joined us for a moment to see Trenčín through her eyes.

At the event Through the Eyes of the Trenčín 2026 City Writer, we will look back with Stefanie on her time here and everything she discovered along the way. There will be conversation, photographs, stories and perhaps a few surprises. Because a city we see every day can suddenly look completely different when viewed through the eyes of someone discovering it for the first time.

Come and hear what Stefanie saw, heard and experienced in Trenčín, what surprised her during her stay and what memories of the city she will take with her.

Stefanie Bose’s stay in Trenčín is part of the long-term City Writer project, which has been organised since 2009 by the Deutsches Kulturforum östliches Europa / German Cultural Forum for Eastern and Central Europe, in cooperation with local partners in numerous countries across Central and Eastern Europe.
