The program was nominated for the 2023 Tatra Banka Foundation Award.
This joint project of the string quartet Spectrum Quartett led by violinist Ján Kružliak Jr., the folk ensemble Nogaband led by Michal Noga, and the vocal group Uljanky under the direction of Margita Jágerová, with special guest singer Simona Hulejová, presents an extraordinary fusion of classical and folk music, built on exploring mutual inspirations and connections between these two seemingly unrelated musical worlds.
These ensembles represent the very best of what the young generation of Slovak musicians currently offers in the genres of classical and folk music.
Spectrum Quartett is an ensemble whose original sound combines the experience of its members not only from the field of classical music but also from jazz, world music, and improvisation.
The folk ensemble Nogaband is renowned for its top-quality interpretation of traditional music, while Uljanky is an outstanding vocal group specializing in the performance of traditional folk songs.
At their joint concert, they will present a distinctly Slovak program represented by works of composers inspired by Slovak folk songs.
Listeners will thus hear both the authentic form of folk motifs and their adaptation into more complex musical forms by composers such as Eugen Suchoň, Ilja Zeljenka, Alexander Moyzes, Béla Bartók, and Leoš Janáček.
On stage will be three ensembles – two string groups: the professional string quartet Spectrum Quartett, the traditional folk ensemble Michal Noga Band, and the female vocal group Uljanky, joined by special guest singer Simona Hulejová.
Admission: €10.
