For the first time in Trenčín’s history, Japan is coming directly to you – into the streets, galleries, cultural centres, and the main square. Japanese Days in Trenčín mark the pilot edition of a festival that aims to build a lasting cultural connection between Slovakia and Japan, showing that Japanese art is not distant – it is alive, surprising, and fully present.
The festival begins as early as 8 June, when Japanese street artist Simo starts painting a large-scale mural in the Juh housing estate – the first of many activities taking place across the city. The main festival then runs from 10 to 14 June, with each day offering a different experience.
The programme will feature Kyogen theatre performed by Nagomi Kyogen Czech, an exhibition and workshops by kite artist Yoh Yasuda, a puppet performance by Noriyuki Sawa, a tea ceremony, Japanese martial arts, and a final light and dance performance by Hiroaki Umeda. There will also be an authentic Japanese food court and more surprises to be revealed soon.
The festival is made possible thanks to the support of EU Japan Fest and in collaboration with Japanese artists and partners. The full programme will be announced soon.
