At 7:30 PM, we’ll launch Trenčín dolinečka, a new audiovisual work by Boris Vitázek, presented at the boathouse and Fiesta Bridge.

Transformations of Public Space
A discussion on how the face of the city is changing and how public space influences our everyday lives.
Public space is a place of encounters and shared experiences – and at the same time, a reflection of the values our society upholds. How does it change over time? What challenges does its transformation bring? And how can artistic, architectural, and community approaches come together in its creation?
The discussion will focus on the transformation of public space in Trenčín, the city’s vision for the coming years, and specific projects that shape its identity.
Participants:
-
Omar Mirza – City Curator of Trenčín, dedicated to connecting art, culture, and urban space.
-
Renáta Kaščáková – Co-author of the urban concept Trenčín Is You, long engaged in sustainable urban development and citizen participation.
-
Katarína Onderková – Architect and member of the collective Spolka, which focuses on socially responsible approaches to architecture and urban planning.
The discussion will open up topics such as collaboration between the city, experts, and communities; the identity of public space in the era of climate and social change; and how design and culture can help create a city for people – not only for cars or investors.
Zero – Interactive Audiovisual Artwork in Public Space
In the M. R. Štefánik Park in Trenčín, a symbolic countdown to the year 2026 begins – the year when the city will become the European Capital of Culture.
The installation Zero, designed by architect Alan Prekop, is a forthcoming interactive audiovisual artwork to be placed in the city park. It reflects the city and its rhythm through a vertical structure incorporating light and sound elements that respond to the surroundings – mirroring Trenčín while blending gently into its environment.
The piece creates a space where the present meets the future – the “countdown” becomes a living organism that breathes and communicates with visitors. The project also features video footage of everyday city life (camera: Emma Lea Nikodýmová, editing: Adam Kubala, music: Juraj Marikovič) and light design that respects the park’s biodiversity.
Once the countdown reaches zero, the object will transform into a permanent element of the city’s public space – a symbol of a new chapter in Trenčín’s story as a city of culture.
