Residency and Workshop with Mikolt Tózsa (HU)
What does “home” mean to us? Where does belonging begin — and when does leaving become inevitable?
This residency invites participants to explore the themes of home and belonging in a time of relocation, movement, and inner searching. Through the nonverbal language of postmodern theatre, we examine the dilemmas between staying and leaving, the experience of home, and questions of identity. Participants work with their own experiences, bodily memory, and social reflexes in a collective yet autonomous creative process. The workshop draws from image theatre techniques and focuses on nonverbal, form-challenging performative approaches. Through individual and group exercises, participants experiment, play, reflect, and share. Together, we deconstruct traditional theatrical structures and reassemble them from both personal and political perspectives.

Mikolt Tózsa (HU)
Led by Mikolt Tózsa, performer and theatre maker, graduate of the Theatre and Performance program at Freeszfe. Her work is grounded in critical theory, social engagement, and performative experimentation that pushes the boundaries of artistic expression. She perceives theatre as an event in which the audience becomes an active participant. Mikolt is co-founder of the National Performance Theatre Collective, and her solo and collective works have been presented at festivals such as THEALTER (Szeged), TESZT (Timișoara), Dream Factory (Ostrava), and HAU (Berlin).
The international theatre residency project brings to Trenčín a unique format of collective authorship under the guidance of experienced mentors from the V4 countries — Slovakia, Czechia, Hungary, and Poland. In the open and creative space of Družba Drama Studio in Trenčín, four short stage works will be created, reflecting the participants’ personal experiences and their shared process. The goal of the residencies is to connect professional artists with the local community, foster creativity, and allow audiences to glimpse into the process of creating theatre itself. The results of each residency will be presented publicly and followed by discussions with the creators. The project offers a new way to perceive theatre — as a space for collaboration, dialogue, and sharing — while also creating a model that can inspire further artistic initiatives in and beyond Trenčín.
This project is carried out with the support of Trenčín 2026 – European Capital of Culture and the City of Trenčín.
